Passports & Entry Requirements

  • A valid passport is required for international travel. We recommend checking your passport's expiration date well in advance of your trip.
  • Our wedding is in Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom. Dublin and the rest of the Republic of Ireland are a separate country, so entry requirements can differ.
  • U.S. travelers visiting Northern Ireland generally need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), including when entering by land from the Republic of Ireland. Requirements depend on nationality and immigration status, so please check the official guidance before traveling.

Entry requirements may change before August 2027. Please verify the latest official guidance before departure.

Flights & Arrival

  • We recommend flying into Dublin Airport (DUB), which offers a convenient starting point for exploring Ireland and traveling north to the Causeway Coast.
  • Our wedding celebrations on Wednesday, August 25, 2027 will take place on a private cliff overlooking Dunluce Castle, between Portrush and Bushmills — approximately three hours from Dublin Airport by car, depending on traffic and stops.
  • Our wedding-week base is the Causeway Coast from August 23–27, 2027. You're welcome to arrive earlier, stay longer, or plan your own adventure around the celebration.

Transportation & Driving

A rental car is one of the easiest ways to explore Ireland's coastline, villages, and countryside, particularly if you're hoping to visit scenic viewpoints and smaller attractions.

  • Vehicles drive on the left side of the road.
  • Rural roads can be narrow and winding.
  • Most rental cars in Ireland are manual — request an automatic when you book.
  • Tell your rental company you'll be traveling into Northern Ireland. Companies may have specific policies for crossing between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
  • Public transportation is available, but some coastal destinations are easier to reach by car.
  • If you don't plan to drive, consider arranging transportation ahead of time.

Wedding-day shuttle arrangements are being finalized. We'll share pickup locations and timing once confirmed.

Currency & Payments

Although Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland share the same island, they use different currencies.

Northern Ireland
British pounds sterling (GBP / £)
Republic of Ireland
Euros (EUR / €)

Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, although a little local cash can be useful for smaller purchases. If you're traveling between both regions, remember that prices will be displayed in different currencies.

Weather & What to Pack

Irish weather can be unpredictable, even in August! You may experience sunshine, clouds, coastal breezes, and rain all in the same day.

  • Bring layers for changing temperatures and coastal breezes.
  • Pack a waterproof jacket for rainy moments.
  • Choose comfortable walking shoes for exploring castles, villages, beaches, and coastal paths.

For the Wedding: Dressy casual attire is perfect. Our ceremony will take place outdoors on a private cliff overlooking Dunluce Castle, so please choose shoes suitable for grass and uneven ground. A warm layer is also recommended.

Staying Connected

  • Ireland and Northern Ireland use Type G electrical outlets with three rectangular pins. U.S. travelers will need a plug adapter.
  • The standard electrical supply is 230V. Most modern phone and laptop chargers support this voltage, but check your devices before traveling, particularly hair dryers and styling tools.
  • We also recommend checking your phone provider's international roaming options or considering a travel eSIM.

Time Difference

During our August trip, Ireland and Northern Ireland will be five hours ahead of the U.S. East Coast.

For example, when it's noon in Maryland or Pennsylvania, it's 5:00 PM in Ireland.

Where to Stay

  • The Overall Plan page has our hotel suggestions in Dublin and on the Causeway Coast. Portrush, Bushmills and Portballintrae are all close to the wedding.
  • There are plenty of hotels, guesthouses and Airbnb stays to explore — choose what suits your plans and budget. Our own wedding-week home is private accommodation, not a guest room block.

A Few Travel Tips

  • Book flights, accommodations, and rental cars early for the busy summer travel season.
  • Consider travel insurance, particularly for international flights and prepaid accommodations.
  • Allow time for scenic stops and unexpected discoveries.
  • Bring comfortable walking shoes and a lightweight waterproof layer.
  • Remember that our extended honeymoon itinerary is optional. Guests are welcome to explore independently.

Most importantly, enjoy the adventure! We're so excited to celebrate with you in one of our favorite corners of the world.
